The Tom Thompson Memorial Bench remembers Tom Thompson, fleet manager for the Forest Preserves of Cook County for decades and Illinois Alliance for Clean Transportation board member.

In 2023, the Illinois Alliance for Clean Transportation (IACT) lost a cherished team member. As a longtime friend and active board member, Tom played a significant role in advancing IACT's mission.

Tom Thompson worked at the Forest Preserves of Cook County as Fleet Manager, championing their green fleet program. Even after retirement, he continued to serve as a dedicated board member, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to clean air and community service.

To honor his legacy, IACT created the Tom Thompson Leadership in Public Service Award. This award, given each year since December 2023 during IACT's Annual Meeting & Holiday Reception, celebrates the accomplishments and positive impacts of fleets and staff who are leaders in sustainable fleet solutions.

IACT is also pleased to share a new way to remember Tom. Through the Tinley Park Park District Memorial Bench Program, a bench will soon be installed in his honor at Centennial Park in Tinley Park, his hometown. This special tribute reflects the deep ties Tom had to his community where his wife, Kim, still resides.
